Vintage little miss

I was lucky enough to stumble across a salvation army store in Umina,NSW on the way home from an exhausting family camping trip,
Feeling like I really couldn't summon the energy for the reptile park the kids wanted to visit on the long trip way home the salvo store appeared like a beacon of hope,
What surprises lurked inside?

When this little perfect lilac pressed linen suit jumped into my hands it was love at first sight!
from the ric-rac edged collar and pockets to the embroidered daisies on the collar, the attention to detail was superb
As I gingerly approached the counter thinking there must have been a mistake,
   my heart beating quickly,
Im sure it will fit Nevada,
its got too

$6.00,
yep, that's what it cost,
with a grin from ear to ear I couldn't wait to try it on the little miss,
and can you believe it fitted like a dream!!!

I love my vintage little miss
and I'm very grateful to the amazing artist that made this little suit with so much love
that we can now enjoy it today

My dress and coat are both vintage eBay and garage sale finds, boots are witchery from a few years ago
I think most of my clothes are vintage, the pieces that I really love and couldn't bear to part with
I love being able to share my love of clothing with my kids,
One of our favourite things to do is hit the op shop trail in the holidays, starting from home with $20 each they can buy what they want and it's good to listen to them
Working it all out and prioritising
Nothing like the thrill of a bargain to generate some excitement !!

dyeing pretties

It's the little things in life that bring a smile to my face,
The sun on your face when its been hiding behind the rain,
the smell of the salty sea after a storm,
fresh fragrant spring blossoms,
and a big belly laugh with friends,

Something else that makes me happy is the transformation of unloved forgotten doilies,

Rescued from the dusty depths of an opportunity store, washed, sorted and then dipped into a bath of vibrant colour transforming them into bright beauties awaiting a new life

A strange happiness I agree,
but you too would smile to see them dancing in the sunshine on my trusty clothesline,

And then the fun begins..
Piecing them together randomly, stitching as I go,
before my eyes these lace doilies transform into a new garment,so much prettier than I could have imagined when they were all an unattractive shade of 'greige'

I don't know what the real prize is?
The enjoyable process, the finished garment or the re-purposing of something old?

Either way, they all put a smile on my dial

A gypsy soul

The beach has been so beautiful on these clear sunny winter days
I have to remind myself to make the most of them and enjoy doing things like floating beach flowers in the empty ocean pool, just to watch them make petal shaped shadows in the sun kissed water  below.
Something  you could never do in the heat of summer when the pool is full of busy swimmers and families enjoying the sunshine🌞

These seaside daisies really look like they have been handpainted by fairies with watercolours and lots of love❤

And the way the sandstone has been carved by the water to form magical honeycomb castles with golden sand floors, winter beach discoveries are magical indeed!

Blue stone love that's what I'm about
Nothing gets my heart beating faster  than all the blue stones❤
The aqua blue of turquoise really warms my heart, and the icy coolness of aquamarine and sapphires feel refreshing against your skin..

These are my favourites right now,
From l-r,
my  vintage aquamarine wedding ring surrounded by diamonds,
baguette cut blue topaz,
ippolita constellation ring in silver and turquoise and ippolita's sphere shaped dome ring In hand beaten silver and blue topaz

Pony gold's sketchbook inspiration led to some more watercolour painting experimentation on my behalf

I'd love to develop a t shirt design incorporating the word "free spirit" and this is one prototype that I have in mind for the background image,
my handpainted prancing pony

What to wear..
The weather had been so sporadic lately,
I'm continuing to fight off the chilly days with the sunniest clothes I can find, such as my delicious pink and aqua silk sari dress worn layered over a vintage slip dress, throw a leather jacket over the top and your good to go!

And my fluro pink ice watch  and vintage turquoise cuff match perfectly!!

Vintage turquoise jewellery is a real weak spot for me,particularly  pieces as beautiful as this...

Have you discovered any artists that really make your heart sing???

This is it for me,Luke Taffe is his name and I am so in love with his Japanese ink woodblock style and  the rainbow hued colours exploding off his work..

Luke works full time for Roxy in California in their art department,
but in his spare time he paints primarily on wood and sends his pieces back to the Retrospect  gallery in Byron bay and the Gold Coast, where I discovered him a few years back

Some examples of Luke's amazing work.,

All his work usually has an ocean or mountain theme reflecting Luke's love of the natural elements

And finally my statement of the week,

Until next time

Blooming Friday

Friday mornings are my special time with my littlest child Nevada and if its a lovely day we like to go to our local cafe
Palmbeach boathouse
It's a culinary and visual feast right on the wharf overlooking the glassy waters of pittwater
Today there was a feast of canary yellow tulips, the prettiest pinky green roses and tangy bright orange citrus fruit

We enjoyed a delicious mummy and baby sized soy hot chocolates on the wharf in the winter sunshine

My outfit today was a favourite rainbow "splattered"t shirt I bought from.
At etsy.com worn under a lace loose shell t and lilac jbrand skinny jeans

My favourite necklace combination at the moment is my glass beaded rainbow tassle necklace from boudior in Avalon and my gypsygirl name necklace

Don't believe in magic you won't receive it either, age is an attitude❤

Inspired by all those beautiful blooms I discovered these little gems on prettylittlethings.blogspot.com perfect for summer garden party and festival headgear,I wrap one I bought in Byron bay around my favourite fedora hat,it adds a whimsical touch that I like

Speaking of whimsical look at this stunning archway for the wedding of Chanel muse and society princess Caroline Seiber
In Europe recently,Keeping with her Austrian roots down to the pageboys delightful bib n brace velvet lederhosen and her fairy tale puff sleeved Cinderella dress....so dreamy

The bridal party...

good enough to eat...

Hi there
don't know what looks more delicious than this, neon bright colours, glossy sheen and beautiful texture...
Yum yum yum

I have a new love, this beautiful metallic and neon knit from aussie local label ginger and smart,

I tried this on a year ago and so loved it but it was stretching my budget,so I watched eBay like an obsesssed stalker until one came up still with tags attached!!!
Love a bargain like that $60 instead of about $350  and it's even warmer and comfier to wear than I thought it would be,I'm a happy gypsy :)

Worn with my sweet glass bead tassle necklaces from boudior at Avalon

Winter blooms cheer me up on a grey, wet, day

I have amassed quite a collection of beautiful lace dresses in lovely gelato colours,I like to hang them altogether  to gaze at their loveliness

Nothing makes me feel more feminine than a pretty lace dress and lovely shoes I have found these two favourites on eBay under vintage lace dresses, they are all cotton ,hand crocheted and fall like a dream
I love them ❤❤❤

Colour inspiration can come from anywhere and I find the world we live in(our homes)and our clothes
Often reflect each other to define our own personal style
We own a raspberry suede couch and I love it to bits, such an uplifting colour

I've been working on these super soft crocheted leather necklaces with cowrie shells randomly attached along the chain

The leather was very finely cut strips of super soft leather from my local supplier
These strips are hand knotted together and then I crochet them by hand

I love them piled together, random lengths lots of colour but they do look good on their own too

Another combo that I'm loving right now is my stunning camilla mermaid bolero jacket encrusted with shells, beads, sequins and treasures worn with a rainbow embroidered indian tunic

I like to put it with simple skinny jeans in denim or white and some crazy rainbow satin leopard flats,
I will post a piccy of them soon!

The embellishments and textures are so uplifting,
I love hearing myself jangle as I walk when I'm wearing this jacket,
it's a keeper for sure.
It's hard for me to always give a reference for my clothes as a large percentage of what I wear is vintage  and not necessarily "in fashion"but I encourage you if you find something you love, you feel great in it and it fits you well, don't ever part with it!!!
These will be the pieces that really define your style

Believe it or not, this is the moon rising over Avalon beach as the sun was setting
Sometimes I have to stop and remind myself what a beautiful place I'm lucky enough to live in
