good enough to eat...

Hi there
don't know what looks more delicious than this, neon bright colours, glossy sheen and beautiful texture...
Yum yum yum

I have a new love, this beautiful metallic and neon knit from aussie local label ginger and smart,

I tried this on a year ago and so loved it but it was stretching my budget,so I watched eBay like an obsesssed stalker until one came up still with tags attached!!!
Love a bargain like that $60 instead of about $350  and it's even warmer and comfier to wear than I thought it would be,I'm a happy gypsy :)

Worn with my sweet glass bead tassle necklaces from boudior at Avalon

Winter blooms cheer me up on a grey, wet, day

I have amassed quite a collection of beautiful lace dresses in lovely gelato colours,I like to hang them altogether  to gaze at their loveliness

Nothing makes me feel more feminine than a pretty lace dress and lovely shoes I have found these two favourites on eBay under vintage lace dresses, they are all cotton ,hand crocheted and fall like a dream
I love them ❤❤❤

Colour inspiration can come from anywhere and I find the world we live in(our homes)and our clothes
Often reflect each other to define our own personal style
We own a raspberry suede couch and I love it to bits, such an uplifting colour

I've been working on these super soft crocheted leather necklaces with cowrie shells randomly attached along the chain

The leather was very finely cut strips of super soft leather from my local supplier
These strips are hand knotted together and then I crochet them by hand

I love them piled together, random lengths lots of colour but they do look good on their own too

Another combo that I'm loving right now is my stunning camilla mermaid bolero jacket encrusted with shells, beads, sequins and treasures worn with a rainbow embroidered indian tunic

I like to put it with simple skinny jeans in denim or white and some crazy rainbow satin leopard flats,
I will post a piccy of them soon!

The embellishments and textures are so uplifting,
I love hearing myself jangle as I walk when I'm wearing this jacket,
it's a keeper for sure.
It's hard for me to always give a reference for my clothes as a large percentage of what I wear is vintage  and not necessarily "in fashion"but I encourage you if you find something you love, you feel great in it and it fits you well, don't ever part with it!!!
These will be the pieces that really define your style

Believe it or not, this is the moon rising over Avalon beach as the sun was setting
Sometimes I have to stop and remind myself what a beautiful place I'm lucky enough to live in

Caravan of love

In an ideal world this would be the gypsy caravan that I would love to have in a pretty corner of my garden,
but alas there are very few gypsy vardo's in Australia as we have never really had any Romany gypsies travelling our roads, selling their wares and telling our fortunes,
Just  some of the descendants of those sent out here for stealing with all the other convicts,
like my maternal great great grandmother Amalia
So when it became obvious that my boys weren't working out sharing a bedroom and we didn't really want to do another extension on our home
we started looking around at other options, when the idea of a retro caravan to be placed on the side of our house for our eldest son Levi  came up,

To my surprise he embraced the idea and we set about scouring gum tree and eBay for a retro shape, metal clad funky little van of love that we could make special for Levi

After a few months of searching we eventually found this little beauty out on a farm near bendigo Victoria
It didn't matter that she wasn't pretty inside,we were going to gut her anyway,
We just needed a good solid shell and a cute shape and that's what we got
Unfortunately her little hatch roof blew off on the truck on the way here!!

Why do these things always happen to me???

We ripped out the insides and scrubbed her exterior until she shone and then manoeuvred her into position in her new home on the side of our house

We had a tradesmen come in and reline the interior in plywood and replacing the hole in the roof with a lovely new roof that resembled the interior of a little boat with caged lights
Only the overhead cupboards were kept from the original interior and a large u-shaped bed was built on one side under the horizontal windows and a long desk was built on the other opposite window

We set a new little garden around the caravan with a raised bed for my tomatoes and herbs,
And pots of citrus trees and lavender to smell nice as you brush past

Coming soon:
Next step was finishing off the interior and making up the bed linen and upholstery as well as painting murals of sugar skulls dripping off a vine along the feature wall....
That's what I'm doing now so I will show you stage 2 in a post coming shortly :)

dreaming of a gypsy

So I decided what I really needed to do was to blog not about one specific subject, because I love and am very passionate about lots of things
I needed the freedom to jump from playdoh with the kids to delicate lace dresses with my work.
And I needed my blog to reflect that
Fashion and illustrations are  still my passion but so are school projects and being a mum
Gypsygirlstyle because a lot of people refer to me as a bit of a hippy or a gypsygirl so I guess that is my style
It just feels right..
This is going to be my online journal of things I'm doing in my life with both my family and my work/creative pursuits
I hope you enjoy..
To float amongst the flowers in a warm pool would be
        So so nice right now....

I've been doing a lot of illustrations in my ambition to draw my ultimate gypsygirl for my banner and swing tags
I want her hip, groovy  but soft and dreamy too
these are a few examples using watercolour and blk ink...

my daughters and their friends early sunday morning, forget sleepins!!!
however I am really pleased I had my camera ready to capture the moment..too sweet

What I tell the people I love as much as I can,
and where I'd love to be right now....

What I've been wearing..

Every morning Ive been reaching for the warmest pants I can find which usually equals jeans!!
I'm glad I recently purchased a few new fun pairs to breakup all the dark winter clothes,
am loving these cotton on star jeans that were a steal in a recent sale

love my crystal tassle necklaces,
I wear them so much to jazz up something plain

worn with a beloved equipment silk ikat blouse
and a jacaranda cashmere cardigan my stylish mum picked me up in scotland,
thanks mum x

and my boots, they were the best purchase of winter,
all leather, super comfy, glorious colour, made in italy, label is beaucoops and i bought them locally at Di Van Oui at Newport on the northern beaches

"if she's amazing, she won't be easy.If she's easy, she wont' be amazing. If she's worth it,you won't give up.If you give up,you're not worthy...Truth is,everybody is going to hurt you;you just gotta find the ones worth suffering for." ...Bob Marley

sometimes all I want to do is find a sunny patch of grass and curl up and have a siesta with the warm sun on my face, the reality of having many small children is there is usually one crawling on top of me...this gypsy lady looks so content :)
