Caravan of love

In an ideal world this would be the gypsy caravan that I would love to have in a pretty corner of my garden,
but alas there are very few gypsy vardo's in Australia as we have never really had any Romany gypsies travelling our roads, selling their wares and telling our fortunes,
Just  some of the descendants of those sent out here for stealing with all the other convicts,
like my maternal great great grandmother Amalia
So when it became obvious that my boys weren't working out sharing a bedroom and we didn't really want to do another extension on our home
we started looking around at other options, when the idea of a retro caravan to be placed on the side of our house for our eldest son Levi  came up,

To my surprise he embraced the idea and we set about scouring gum tree and eBay for a retro shape, metal clad funky little van of love that we could make special for Levi

After a few months of searching we eventually found this little beauty out on a farm near bendigo Victoria
It didn't matter that she wasn't pretty inside,we were going to gut her anyway,
We just needed a good solid shell and a cute shape and that's what we got
Unfortunately her little hatch roof blew off on the truck on the way here!!

Why do these things always happen to me???

We ripped out the insides and scrubbed her exterior until she shone and then manoeuvred her into position in her new home on the side of our house

We had a tradesmen come in and reline the interior in plywood and replacing the hole in the roof with a lovely new roof that resembled the interior of a little boat with caged lights
Only the overhead cupboards were kept from the original interior and a large u-shaped bed was built on one side under the horizontal windows and a long desk was built on the other opposite window

We set a new little garden around the caravan with a raised bed for my tomatoes and herbs,
And pots of citrus trees and lavender to smell nice as you brush past

Coming soon:
Next step was finishing off the interior and making up the bed linen and upholstery as well as painting murals of sugar skulls dripping off a vine along the feature wall....
That's what I'm doing now so I will show you stage 2 in a post coming shortly :)
Love and rainbows
Gypsy girl x
