It's time to yarn bomb...

I've started on a new secret project just for fun,
For years I've secretly wanted to "art" bomb my local area with murals of fairies and mermaids on electricity boxes,

cover poles  and trees with rainbow coloured yarn and leave random fairy gardens in local parks for kids to discover,

just to make my local environment a more magical place in general
Well no more procrastinating!
I've made the decision to do just that this summer!!very excited!!!

First project:
Crochet pole covers for prominent street signs in the area (and I think the community centres front steps pole is looking particularly enticing)

Here are some great examples from a festival in England called "yarn dale"
I love the idea of dressing everyday objects with new brightly coloured clothes of rainbow crochet

How could anyone not have a smile on their face after stumbling across a tree  wrapped in colourful wool?or park their bike in a rainbow bike rack?

So I need to get busy!
crocheting skinny pole covers!!!
Watch this space for updates of my crafty crimes!!!

Double denim kinda Day

It was such a windy, wet day that I decided the best thing to do is dress for comfort  in my favourite double denim combo
A soft washed denim shirt and über old frayed denim skirt(who ever thought the 90's would be back with such a force)

To put a spring in my step,I paired them with my favourite silver Michael Jackson wedge sneakers!!!they make me feel like dancing!!!

Warm and cozy,I settled into some idea sketches and worked on some of my bohemian gypsy vests for adults,I have quite the collection building

I'm really inspired by feathers at the moment, and have been hand cutting soft leather feathers to attach to my vests and belts, love these handpainted ones here, very inspiring!!!

I initially made the vests to compliment my doily lace skirts, however they have started to come into their own and I'm really enjoying working with all the different mediums,
Leather, crochet, embellishing and hand painting to make each one unique and special

A raspberry suede vest with crochet edge and leather feathers in various shades of reds

And a candy shearling cropped vest with rainbow embroidery and cowrie shell embellishment

This is just a taste,I will do some pretty photos when I have a few more completed,

Dreaming of white lace

Don't you love the way lace casts beautifully patterned shadows across the ground when the sun shines through it
White lace is one of my favourite things,it always looks fresh and feminine,

From a casual outfit of a lace shirt with jeans through to an elaborate layered wedding dress, lace is so versatile and beautiful

This is the beginnings of my first gypsy style of sample wedding dresses I'm putting together,

This one is pieced together doilies and linen, all in white with a low v shaped back and cowrie shell accents
She is starting to look very pretty,I can't wait to photograph her when she's done

I'm going to put together a series of bridal styles all with a whimsical gypsy look to them,
for those brides that want a beautiful soft dress to get married in
designed for either a lush garden or a windswept beach rather than a formal church or reception
And as shells and flowers have a huge influence on my work I'm sure you'll be seeing a lot of those too

It's funny how life turns full circle on you sometimes,it's almost 10 years to the day that my partner and I sold our bridal couture business in paddington and here I am dreaming up wedding dresses again!!

Have a lovely day and smell the spring blossoms that are in full bloom

Gypsy patchwork vests for the little people

          Gypsy leather patchwork vests

What to wear over all those pretty Lace dresses and sheer layers when the weather is in that delicious stage of long sunny days and cool nights?

That is always a dilemma for me

I love soft cotton and cashmere cardigans and as another layer I love to throw on a leather and suede vest

I have a few of them now of mixed colours and textures, and I've been making up some new ones for my kids with some great off cuts I found at NSW leather in Waterloo, sydney

Layering dyed shearling with soft leather or suede and then over embellishing with a variety of studs, leather hand cut feathers, interesting beads and shells,
the occasional doily gets attached too!!

They make for a great little funky addition to layer year round with all your basics

The blue/black is a tougher boys edition,at first I thought only my girls would be keen but I was wrong!!
The boys want one too!

This very colourful vest also features bamboo crochet as a finish on the sides and neckline, something I'm starting to do a lot more of
These are the kids editions but I'm working on a group of adult versions now as well as a similar patchwork /embellished style of hip belt
All will be revealed ASAP,
I feel like I'm starting to get a range of my things together that really forms a story of what my style is,and that means a smile is dancing on my face when I look into my little studio at the end of a creating session!

An inspirational image to leave you with,I'd love to be able to grow rainbow dandelions!!
